After the dudeoir photos were posted on line I received a ton of emails from you guys asking how I got into to “dudeoir-shape.” Here’s my complete guide. But keep in mind, everybody’s body is so different. What works for me might not work for you. But this is what got me to a point where I felt comfortable half-naked in front of a camera.
I’m going to try and cover all the emails with this one blog.
Do you work out every day?
The short answer: No. Most weeks I do three days of weight training and two days of cardio. My cardio routine is generally a treadmill run for between 45 minutes and an hour in my fat burning zone. About three weeks before the shoot I started working out six days a week; a combination of weight training and cardio.  The cardio part is easy. Stay in your fat burning zone for an hour. How do you find your fat burning zone? Look it up on line. It’s really simple search.
The longer answer:
First, I am NOT a gym rat. Quite honestly, I don’t like working out. It’s painful. It’s awkward. It’s hard work. I’d rather being something else every time in working out. It’s not my escape. In fact, if I don’t even want to begin to add up all the time I could have had with the family if I cut out the gym each week.
But that’s not reality. While I don’t like working out, I do like the results. And I’m at an age now that if I don’t work out I tighten up and just feel crappy.
For years I worked out by myself with modest results. I wasn’t in bad shape. But my body was never in the shape it’s now. Why? I don’t have the discipline to show up to the gym regularly unless somebody is waiting there for me. If somebody is taking time out of their day for a meeting I feel obligated to go. Looking back I think I probably did a lot of exercises incorrectly. And I never could push my body the way it needs to be pushed to achieve the results I finally got. I have to have somebody making me do more reps than I think I can to really make my body change. So for me, hiring a trainer was the most important step for my fitness.  I use Dolvett Quince from BodySculptor, Inc. Without Dolvett and his staff these pictures never get done! Period. http://bodysculptorinc.com/.  They can do the same for you. Promise! I HIGHLY recommend them.
What’s your diet like?
I eat small meals every three hours; 4am, 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 6:30pm.   This boosts your metabolism. I DO eat carbs. I have to eat carbs. The trick is knowing good carbs from bad carbs. Google it. I keep my diet lean like fish, chicken, veggies, fruits, multi-grain breads, brown rice and pastas.  Eat as little fat as possible. I hardly eat any sugar.  And if you really want to see results quickly stop drinking alcohol.  Years ago Illana Katz sat me down and was instrumental in teaching me about eating and nutrition: 4042267723.
 What supplements do you take?
Hardly any. I take two shots of a multivitamin liquid called IntraMax every day. Post workout I do a combination of Acai and pure protein. Your body NEEDS natural sugar and protein after a workout to get glycogen levels correct and your muscles are hungry to be repaired by the protein.
In all honesty, a week before the shoot I started to take a fat burner called Meltdown. I took a water draining supplement for four days called “Show Time.”
 Who shot the pictures?
Richie Arpino. You can contact him at Richiearpino@mac.com.
The bottom line is that to lose the weight you have to be disciplined. Period. You gotta really want it. If you want to lose any weight it’s not a fun process. There’s no short cut. You can’t eat what others are eating. You can’t drink as much as other’s in a bar. It’s time consuming and you have to make it part of your daily routine. It’s hard work. For sure.  For me it’s wanting to look good for my wife, wanting to be able to keep up with my kids and wanting to feel like I’m going to live longer.
Hope this helps. If I forgot anything just shoot me an email: Bert@q100atlanta.com

Hey Bert! The pics are great, and your body is in tip top shape. I heard Jeff mention that you only ate 15 grapes every morning for 2 months. Is that true? Can you give me a peek on what you’ve been eating from breakfast to dinner? I’d like to achieve that kind of success too!

Thanks!

Sure, Bernard. Here is a loose outline:

About Bert Weiss

Hey Y'all.

I can't believe that it's been over seven years since I started "The Bert Show" in Atlanta. Before Q100, I was part of the support staff on morning shows in San Diego, Washington, DC and Dallas.   Q100 gave me my first shot at hosting a morning show. I was so nervous to come to Atlanta.   I remember my fear of failure being so intense the first few months that I actually went on anxiety medication.  Ridiculous, right?

Seven years later I'm really proud of what the Bert Show has done.  When the show started, we literally were the last ranked morning show in the city.   Thanks to you guys we've come a long, long way since then.

So much has changed in my life since we got here. My son Hayden is now 6. I have a 19 month old, too: Hollis. There are so many transplants here that in a few years he may be the only kid in his class to say he was actually born in Atlanta.   Parenting has brought out the best and worst in me. Parenting exposes my emotional baggage but also brings out the best in me.  Watching the person that my sons are growing into is a happiness that I never could have imagined.

My wife and I celebrated our eleventh wedding anniversary this year.

My real love is traveling. My wife and I have traveled all through the Caribbean, Bahamas and Europe.  If there's a beach I want to be on it. Even better if there's a beach I'd like to be surfing then be on the sand. I also love Costa Rica and Brazil. If the US government told me I had to leave the country tomorrow I'd choose Brazil to live.  You haven't experienced a New Year's until you're on the beach with over a million people in Rio de Janeiro.

Give us a try in the morning. We're on from 5:30 to 10am.
