Well, my hopes of adopting my "destiny" puppy yesterday are no more. I got to see the baby before he was adopted out, but someone got there before I did. I'm glad he got a home, but wished I had gotten to take him with me. I know the dog of my dreams is still out there. I plan on looking for a shelter dog. There are a LOT of dogs that are abandoned, found as a stray, or dropped off by owners who can no longer care for them that need homes. If you're planning on getting a dog or cat, I would recommend going to the shelters first. Also, there are a lot of older dogs that need homes as well. They are already potty-trained for the most part and can provide loving homes just as puppies can.
I've compiled a list (so far) of the shelters that I have looked at. Check them out. Maybe you're "destiny" dog is at one of them.

Wendy, you could also look at Dog Pack Rescue, too. It's a lady out in Kingston, GA that has hundreds of rescue dogs at her house. She goes to the Woodstock PetsMart on Sundays, I think — and some other places. www.dogpackrescue.org/

Wendy, I just wanted to let you know that almost the exact same thing happened to me a few months ago. My boyfriend and I were waiting to hear from the shelter about our application, we had already met the puppy (there were actually two, a brother and sister) and when we went, they promised that the pups would not be adopted out because they were still too young. The next day, I called because I hadn't heard from the adoption coordinator, and she said that unfortunately there was a miscommunication and another volunteer had adopted out BOTH of the dogs. And then she continued to say that is was such a shame because she LOVED us and thought we would be perfect. I was so devastated I cried for two days. We JUST started looking again, and are being very cautious to not get too invested until we know for sure. You're not alone... hang in there, your dream pup will come along, mine probably will too... eventually.

A similar thing happened to me. Both me and another lay were talking to the same rescue person about the same kitten from their website, and she didn't realize she was talking to two different people. She told both of us the kitten would be at a PetSmart location on a certain day and that we were both the only person looking at it. I got their first but the other lady had filled out the application online. I loved that kitten with all my heart. I even offered the lady $500 for the $75 kitten. What made me even angrier it was a present for her day who lived on a farm, and it was going to be an outside cat.
You should also try using www.petfinder.com. All the rescue groups and shelters post their adoptable pets on their. You are able to search by breed. There is also a golden rescue in Ga: www.GRRA.com
Also, you could find a rescue group to foster for. That way you could have a dog/puppy in the house while you searched, and if you fell in love with it you could keep it.
Good Luck!

Hey Wendy!! Well I have a full blooded female boxer she is about 12 months old and really needs a home. I have two little boys that are 18months apart and my husband is in iraq and I just really can't give her the attention that she needs. You can have her for free!

I adopted both my siamese cats from shelters. After searching for about a year, I finally found my dream kitten at a humane society. Don't forget to check humane societies because pets there aren't given much time to find a home before they are put down. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect kitten than the one I found. I almost adopted her twin brother that day too, but he was promised to another family. Petfinder.com is also awesome resource for finding your dream pet. Good luck with the search!!

Next Up On The Bert Show...

Hey! I'm Wendy and I'm a 23-year-old single girl living in Atlanta. I am thankful to say that I am a part of an amazing morning show and get to work with an incredible group of people everyday. I'm so blessed to say that I work with friends; it makes the job that much more exciting. I love living in the city. I definitely think Atlanta has a lot to offer. It's a great place to go out and meet lots of people and have a great time. I'm bad at writing the whole "about me" section, so I just put a list of things that make me happy in the next paragraph so you can learn what I'm all about. =)
Happiness = pillows, capri suns, re-runs of "Full House" and "Saved By the Bell," Starbursts, flip-flops, NFL football, tailgating, TGG boots, ranch-dressing, cotton smelling candles, Jager Bombs, fleece blankets, afternoon naps, tights and 80s boots, snack machines, the free gifts from Victoria's Secret, dresses, Perez Hilton, cheesy boy bands, the beach, partying, my fabulous friends, my loving family, Judge Mathis, cuddles, Mickey D's chicken nuggets, *NSYNC Christmas music, crazy Britney Spears, and gossip magazines!
